New Orleans Woman Killed in Car Accident at Metairie Intersection

A 1994 Nissan Altima struck and killed a 53-year-old New Orleans woman last Saturday evening in Metairie.

The fatal car accident occurred in the 1700 block of Veterans Boulevard near Bonnabel Boulevard. The 28-year-old male driver did not suffer injuries in the accident. Police arrested him and charged him with careless operation of a motor vehicle and driving under the influence.

Shortly after 9 p.m. last Saturday, the 911 center reported an accident involving injuries near the intersection of Bonnabel Boulevard and Veterans Boulevard. Deputies responding to the accident scene found the woman’s body in the street. They determined that she was attempting to walk across Veterans Boulevard when the Nissan hit her. They pronounced her dead at the scene.

The Nissan driver is a Metairie resident. Traffic Fatality Investigators suspect that alcohol was a contributing factor to the accident. Authorities did not release the victim’s name pending notice of her next of kin.

After a follow-up investigation, authorities may charge the driver with additional criminal charges.
