Twenty-Eight Firefighters Respond to Louisiana Structure Fire

A golf cart plugged-in for recharging appears to be the cause of a structure fire in St. Amant last month. St. Amant and 7th District fire departments of Ascension Parish responded to the blaze at approximately 10:17 p.m. on a Saturday evening. Fire crews from Sorrento and Galvez-Lake responded for extra water and manpower.

The structure’s owner noticed something wrong when his cable television was not working. He smelled smoke and saw the golf cart engulfed in flames when he went outside to investigate. The fire rapidly spread to a nearby shed and eventually to the house. The fire entered the home’s attic and caused major structural damage. Twenty-eight firefighters responded and brought the fire under control in 18 minutes.

After firefighters got control of the fire, they located the homeowner’s pet dog that was still inside the house. They gave oxygen to the animal and transported it to a local vet.

The home’s value was approximately $120,000. Although the golf cart appears to be the cause of the fire, it is still under investigation.
