Customer Seeks Over $1.5 Million for serious injuries in Home Depot Slip and Fall Case

A woman filed a personal injury lawsuit last week against a Home Depot store in Covington after allegedly slipping in water while shopping in the store last May. According to the complaint filed in New Orleans federal court, she slipped and fell in some water on the floor near the checkout area.

The fall injured her knee and she is suing Home Depot for negligence for failing to furnish a safe place to shop, failing to maintain aisles and floors, failing to warn of the hazard, failing to block off the area that contained the water and failing to apply safety mats to the floor.

She is seeking over $1.5 million in damages for mental anguish, physical pain and suffering, lost wages, medical expenses plus interest and court costs. Her husband also claims damages for loss of consortium, love and affection, guidance and support.

Storeowners have a duty to make sure the premises are free of any hazards that may injure customers. When an accident occurs, the property owner may be liable for resulting injuries and medical expenses. Contact a New Orleans injury attorney if you suffer injuries while on another person’s property.
