Metaire Worker Crushed to Death by House

A Metaire worker died last month when a house fell on him. The 32-year-old man was raising the house with other workers when the house pinned him from the waist down. A witness said he heard a loud thump and saw workers running away from the house, and then run back to the house to help the victim. Firefighters used shovels to retrieve the man, but he was dead at the scene. The man was pinned under a front section of the home.

The fatal accident occurred around 1:21 p.m., and firefighters recovered the victim’s body shortly after 3 p.m. Two companies had workers at the site, but it is unclear which company the victim worked for. No other workers suffered injuries in the incident.

The Orleans Parish coroner’s office will perform an autopsy to determine the official cause of death. The New Orleans police department and the city’s Office of Safety and Permits are investigating the incident.
