New Orleans Woman Sues Landlord after Piece of Wood Falls on Her Head

A New Orleans renter is suing her landlord for injuries she suffered when a piece of woodwork in her apartment allegedly fell on her in June 2010. The woman filed suit against her landlord and his insurance company in Orleans Parish Civil District Court. Her New Orleans attorney filed the petition for damages last month.

The woman claims she sustained painful and progressive injuries to her entire body after the piece of wood hit her in the head. Her injuries include her head, neck and back. The lawsuit also claims loss of society, services and consortium for her husband because of her personal injury.

In addition, the lawsuit accuses the defendants of negligence in failing to repair a hazardous area for an unreasonably long period of time, and failing to warn tenants of the danger. The complaint does not allege how long the dangerous condition existed before the accident.
