Teenage Siblings Injured in Fall from Carnival Ride

Two teenagers suffered injuries earlier this month while exiting a carnival ride at a fair in Greensburg. According to investigators, the teens, ages 13 and 15, were exiting the Zipper ride when the ride started to move. The moving ride threw the two from their car and they fell approximately 15 feet to the ground. The Zipper ride spins similar to a Ferris wheel with cars attached to its oval frame.

Rescue workers flew the two victims to Our Lady of the Lake Regional Medical Center in Baton Rouge. They remain in stable condition, according to the Louisiana State Fire Marshal’s Office. Officials have closed the ride indefinitely.

A South Dakota carnival company owns and operates the Zipper ride. Investigators have not found any mechanical defects in the ride, and they have not ruled out operator error. The State Fire Marshal plans a full investigation and hopes to determine a cause for the accident.
