New Orleans Police Officer Injured in Car Chase through City

A police chase through New Orleans earlier this month injured a New Orleans police officer, according to a police spokesperson. The chase ended in a car accident at Press Drive and Campus Boulevard.

An off-duty police officer saw a reported stolen pickup truck on Interstate 10. Dispatch sent officers to the scene to stop the car on the interstate. The pickup traveled down Louisa Street, and officers noticed a passenger throw a gun from the vehicle during the pursuit, according to police. The pickup ran through a stop sign along Press Drive and struck an officer’s SUV, causing it to strike another SUV and flip.

The suspects in the stolen pickup got out of the vehicle and ran away on foot. Police were only able to capture one of the three suspects. Rescue workers pulled the injured officer from the back window of his cruiser. Rescue personnel took the injured officer to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
