Driver Dies after Swerving to Avoid Golf Cart

According to state police, a Montegut man died nearly a week after he crashed his SUV in an effort to avoid a golf cart driven by a teenager who had been drinking.

The Courierreported that the 63-year-old died on May 11, after being hospitalized for over a week after an accident on the morning of May 5.

Police said the 63-year-old was driving north when he encountered the golf cart. The man swerved the Oldsmobile Bravada he was driving to avoid the golf cart and ran off the road. The golf cart was operated by an 18-year-old, who was booked after taking a breath test. Authorities said they will discuss the matter with the Terrebonne Parish District Attorney’s Office before deciding on other charges.
