Body of Brain Injury Victim Found on Streetcar Tracks

Last month, police discovered the body of a 51-year-old man on the riverfront streetcar tracks on Girod Street in New Orleans. The victim suffered a serious brain injury in acar accident in 1976. As a result, he dealt with chronic seizures and wanderlust for the rest of his life, according to his daughter. Wanderlust is a strong desire to travel or wander. His family had not seen him for days prior to the discovery of his body.

The victim’s mother-in-law stated that he spent his time sleeping outdoors or in homeless shelters. He would return home after spending weeks on the street on both sides of the Mississippi River. While away from home, he cut grass or cared for small animals to make money. He once worked in a New Orleans factory and got around by foot or bicycle.

The Orleans Parish Coroner’s Office said he died from blunt force trauma to his body and a fractured neck. The investigator said he likely fell on the tracks and suffered injury from a streetcar.
