Five Killed in Louisiana Car Crash on Interstate 10

Earlier this month, a four-vehicle car accident on Interstate 10 claimed the lives of five people, including three children, east of Highland Road. A 2005 GMC pickup and a 2001Mercedes SUV collided as they were traveling west. After the collision, the pickup rotated clockwise and crossed the median where it collided with a Peterbuilt semi-trailer. The GMC pickup then collided head-on with a 1997 Acura. The Acura stopped in the left lane of Interstate 10 and burst into flames.

The five people in the Acura all perished. The two female adults were both 29-years-old. The three children were a three-year-old boy, seven-year-old boy and an 11-year-old girl, respectively.

The GMC pickup driver, a 29-year-old male, and his passenger, a 28-year-old female, both suffered injuries. Emergency responders transported them to Our Lady of the Lake Hospital. The SUV driver, a 24-year-old female, and the semi-truck driver, a 60-year-old male, were both uninjured in the accident.

Charges are pending the continuing investigation. Investigators sent the drivers’ blood samples to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
