Pregnant Woman Injured by Construction Equipment

A pregnant woman in Orleans Parish filed a lawsuit against a construction company (A & L Underground) after she fell while trying to get around some of its equipment. Last November, she was leaving her house in New Orleans while eight months pregnant. Due to the construction work on her street, there were round metal pipes running parallel to the sidewalk. The pipes stretched the entire length of the street and she needed to get to her car.

According to her complaint, which the defendant removed to federal court, she could not walk around the pipe or over it. She tried ducking under the pipe and fell. She is now claiming damages for physical pain, suffering, anguish, mental fright, shock, loss of enjoyment of life, disability, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, interest and costs.

In addition, she is accusing the defendant construction company of negligence for blocking street access and not allowing safe access to the street and her vehicle.
