Woman Files Suit for over $600,000 after Tripping in Hospital Elevator

A Louisiana woman is suing the Louisiana Medical Center and an elevator company after tripping outside an elevator at the hospital while visiting a friend last November. The woman filed the slip and fall lawsuit for more than $600,000 in New Orleans federal court earlier this month.

According to the complaint, she stepped off the elevator and tripped over the difference in elevation between the elevator and lobby floor. She suffered injuries to her left arm, shoulder and neck. She accuses the elevator manufacturer (Kone, Inc.) of placing a dangerous elevator in use, defectively designing and constructing the elevator and for not providing adequate warnings about the elevator.

Her complaint accuses the hospital of negligence for failing to maintain the elevator and for failing to repair the elevator so that it is even with the floor. She seeks damages for pain and suffering, disability and mental anguish, lost income, medical expenses and loss of earning capacity.
