Woman Steps into Path of Bus after Argument with Sister

A heated argument inside a car between two sisters ended in tragedy when one of the siblings stepped into the path of an oncoming bus and died earlier this month. The 29-year-old victim and her 23-year-old sister were driving near Airport Road and the North Shore exit just after 2:30 a.m. The argument escalated and the driver pulled over to the shoulder and the sisters got out of the car.

According to police, the argument turned physical and the victim stepped from the shoulder into an oncoming bus. The St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office pronounced her dead at the scene. Police arrested her sister and charged her with DWI. Investigators determined that the 58-year-old bus driver was not at fault. No one on the bus suffered injuries in the accident.

Police said both sisters had been drinking and were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident. A police spokesperson said the tragedy shows that impaired passengers can be a dangerous distraction inside a vehicle.
