10-Year-Old Jumps on Hood of Moving SUV

Police do not know if it was a prank, or what caused a 10-year-old Jefferson Parish boy to jump on the hood of an SUV. The boy fell from the hood and died a short time later, according to a story at nola.com. Either way, the Jefferson County Parish Coroner’s Office ruled the boy’s death an accident earlier this month. Police arrested the 34-year-old SUV driver on a number of outstanding traffic violations.

The driver told police that she was visiting the boy’s mother and was leaving the driveway in her SUV. The boy jumped on the hood and she told him to get off the vehicle. He climbed down and she started to pull out of the driveway. She said that is when the boy jumped on the hood again, so she stopped the vehicle and he fell off the hood.

She got out of the car and helped the boy back to his house. His family took him to West Jefferson Medical Center where he succumbed to his injuries. The coroner’s office said he died from blunt force injuries.

Police charged the SUV driver with driving on a restricted license and for writing bad checks.
