A deckhand filed suit against his employer after a slip and fall accident this past March aboard the defendant’s ship. The deckhand filed his negligence lawsuit against Tako Towing, Inc., last month in New Orleans federal court, according to louisianarecord.com.

The plaintiff’s lawsuit alleges that on March 6 he was working on the defendant’s boat. While walking down a staircase on the ship, he slipped and fell on a loose tile. According to his complaint, the defendant did not take proper safety precautions while performing renovations on its ship.

The plaintiff accuses Tako Towing of negligence for failing to properly supervise its employees, failing to properly train the plaintiff, himself, failing to provide him with a safe place to work, failing to properly equip its ship with proper equipment and requiring the plaintiff to work in unsafe conditions.

In his complaint, the plaintiff seeks damages for physical pain and suffering, mental suffering, lost wages, loss of earning capacity, loss of enjoyment of life, medical expenses, attorney’s fees and court costs. The plaintiff filed the negligence lawsuit under the Jones Act. The Jones Act is a federal law that protects sailors and ship crewmembers.
