Read This Especially if You Have a Hewlett Packard Laptop Computer

If you use a Hewlett Packard (HP) laptop computer – and I am typing this blog on one at this moment – be aware of a nationwide recall of certain HP laptops due to overheating resulting in burn injuries in some cases. A Mandeville woman filed a personal injury suit against HP after her HP laptop overheated and burned her in June 2010. Hewlett Packard removed the case to New Orleans federal court earlier this month.

The woman claims she had to go to the hospital for burn treatment after the laptop over-heated. According to her complaint, she accuses HP of failing to warn her of its defective product, breach of express and implied warranty, failing to warn her of the adverse effects of the laptop, failing to recall the laptop and failing to detect a dangerous situation.

Cnet.com, the authority on all things tech, reported that the affected laptops are models sold between August 2007 and March 2008. Hewlett Packard recommends that if you have an HP laptop, to remove the battery and call customer service to see if it has the potential to burn you. If so, HP will send you a free replacement battery.

The affected batteries are prone to overheating, rupturing and bursting into flames.
