Vehicle Lands Upside Down on Bus Shed in Unusual Fatal Accident

It could take six to eight weeks for experts to figure out how a New Orleans man landed his vehicle upside down on top of a bus stop and machinery shed. The unusual fatal car accident happened last week in front of Ochsner Medical Center in New Orleans.

According to Louisiana State Police, the 21-year-old driver was in a Honda Civic speeding down Jefferson Highway at around 2:15 a.m. He hit a curb and drove into a street sign, which apparently threw his Honda 12 feet into the air. It landed upside down on the shed’s roof, according to a police spokesperson.

Emergency responders had to use a ladder to get to the victim after the car crash. They found him dead at the scene. Investigators are waiting for toxicology results, but they do not think the victim was drunk at the time of the car wreck. A police spokesperson said that speed and fatigue might have caused the fatal accident.

A wrecker removed the Honda from the shed’s roof after the accident. Police could not tell if the victim was wearing a seatbelt. An accident reconstruction expert will give investigators a more detailed report of the accident.
