More Slip and Fallout from the BP Oil Disaster

A barge worker shattered his knee after slipping on the barge’s deck last August. He was helping with the BP oil spill cleanup when the slip and fall occurred. The shattered knee caused permanent impairment and he filed suit against Lafayette Workboat Rentals and Settoon Towing, according to louisianarecord.com.

The man’s negligence lawsuit accuses the defendants of failing to provide him with a safe place to work and failing to properly inspect the vessel, among other remedies. He wants damages for pain and suffering, loss of enjoyment of life, loss of earnings, loss of earning capacity and medical expenses.

Sometime in the future, it would be interesting to find out how much collateral damage, so to speak, the BP oil disaster caused. To find out how many injuries, accidents and disputes have a causal connection to the oil spill. By all accounts, the oil spill is the biggest environmental catastrophe in history, and the lawsuits against BP alone may number in the thousands by the time it has done.

The estimated cost of all the lawsuits is in the billions, according one source. In addition to the lawsuits, there is all the lost revenue from businesses along the Gulf Coast.
