NFL Player and Mack Truck Collide

Even an NFL player is no match for an 18-wheel big rig. Fortunately, New Orleans Saints player, Mark Ingram, did not suffer injuries in his collision with a semi-trailer last week. The truck accident happened in Huntsville, Alabama, where the Heisman Trophy winner was for an autograph signing.

Around 1 a.m., Ingram was traveling about 55 mph when his car struck the 18-wheeler as it made a right turn from the center lane. Ingram and his two passengers did not suffer injuries in the car accident. The semi driver also did not suffer injuries in the accident, according to police.

While officers did not issue any citations, Ingram and the semi driver disagreed on whether the semi driver signaled his right-hand turn sufficiently.

Semi-trucks always make wide right turns. You see the graphic on the back of most trailers depicting the image of the truck making a wide right turn to accommodate the trailer. Because of their sheer size, semi-trucks need a wider turn radius. Often, a smaller vehicle passes the trailer only to hit the cab portion that makes the turn first.

Being cautious and defensive around large vehicles is one of the best ways to avoid an accident like this one.
