Another Dangerous Drug Lawsuit for Bayer

It looks there is more trouble for Bayer Pharmaceuticals. In addition to the high-profile Yaz class action lawsuit, a St. Charles Parish man recently filed suit against the pharmaceutical giant alleging that its antibiotic Cipro caused him muscle aches and joint pain. He sued in New Orleans federal court, according to a report at louisianarecord.com.

In May 2010, the plaintiff says he took Cipro for a persistent cough. A doctor again prescribed Cipro after his knee surgery in May 2010. After taking the drug, he began to feel pain in his leg and right shoulder. While on leave from work in late 2010, he found out that the federal Food and Drug Administration (FDA) linked Cipro to tendinitis and tendon ruptures.

According to his complaint, his right shoulder needs surgery. His doctor also diagnosed him with myositis, arthralgias, muscle weakness and myalgias.

The FDA’s warning about Cipro goes all the way back to 2008. In July 2008, the FDA warned that Cipro could lead to an increased risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture. Most of the tendinitis and tendon ruptures affect the Achilles tendon, behind the ankle. Since 1997, the FDA received mover 400 reports of tendon ruptures in patients taking Cipro.
