Pickup Truck Hits Saturn on Passenger Side

A two-vehicle car accident left a man with serious injuries in Morehouse Parish earlier this month. An official news release from the Louisiana State Police said troopers responded to a car crash around 11:41 a.m. on U.S. 425.

According to police, a 2007 Saturn drove into the path of an oncoming Chevrolet pickup truck near Broadnax Road on U.S. 425. The pickup truck hit the Saturn’s passenger side. Emergency responders rushed the 29-year-old Saturn driver to a nearby hospital. Once at the hospital, rescue crews airlifted him to University Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Police said he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the collision with the pickup truck.

The 61-year-old pickup driver did not suffer injuries in the car wreck. He was wearing a seatbelt, according to the report. An investigation of the accident is ongoing and police have not yet filed any charges. Investigators are waiting for toxicology results.

The state police news release added that drivers should make sure that every passenger is buckled up and that children are in proper restraints. It might seem odd that fastening a seatbelt is not second nature to some drivers when they get in their cars. However, some drivers fail to do so despite Louisiana’s primary enforcement of seatbelt laws.
