Van and SUV Collide Head-On on Louisiana Highway

A van and an SUV collided head-on earlier this month on Louisiana 25, killing the 33-year-old woman driving the van. The car accident occurred around 6:50 a.m., according to nola.com. The victim crossed the centerline of the highway and struck the SUV. A spokesperson for the Louisiana State Police said the victim was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the fatal crash.

Investigators do not think alcohol or a medical episode contributed to the car wreck. However, they think something inside the van distracted the victim just before she crossed the centerline. The 69-year-old SUV driver suffered minor injuries and doctors released her from St. Tammany Parish Hospital.

A police spokesperson added that failure to wear a seatbelt often results in serious injuries or worse in a car wreck. Investigators are waiting for the results of the victim’s toxicology test.

Neglecting to wear a seatbelt and distracted driving can prove to be a deadly combination. Taking your eyes off the road even for a second at highway speeds can cause you to lose control of your car. As in the case above, there is little time to correct your vehicle and the result can be fatal.
