Woman Names Pharmacists as Defendants in Latest Yaz Lawsuit

Another Yaz wrongful death lawsuit, but this one names the pharmacists as defendants in addition to Bayer, as reported at madisonrecord.com. The plaintiff’s daughter died from a blood clot in July 2009, allegedly caused by the Yaz birth control pill.

When her daughter began taking Yaz in June 2009, she had arteriovenous malformation, a circulatory system defect that affects blood flow. She asked the pharmacists if Yaz was safe for her daughter given her condition. Both pharmacists told her Yaz was safe, according to her complaint in St. Clair County Circuit Court.

After taking Yaz, her daughter developed a blood clot that traveled to her lungs. She suffered extreme pain and lost consciousness before dying. The mother says the pharmacists neglected to advise her of the bleeding risks associated with Yaz, and that they failed to tell her that Yaz has more health risks than other oral contraceptives.

Like the other thousands of Yaz lawsuits, she accuses Bayer of failing to conduct adequate studies on the risks associated with Yaz. She also accuses Bayer of neglecting to warn users of the increased risk of blood clots, heart attacks, strokes and other severe health problems when taking Yaz.
