18-Wheeler and Motorcycle Collide

Louisiana State Police responded to an accident scene on U.S. 90 last week involving two vehicles. The crash took the life of a 35-year-old man on a motorcycle, according to a report at katc.com. Around 7:20 p.m., an 18-wheel semi got onto Highway 90 from a nearby truck stop. The semi for some reason came to a stop in the median crossover with its trailer sticking out onto the highway.

The 35-year-old victim struck the trailer on his motorcycle. The impact ejected him from his bike. The St. Martin Parish Coroner arrived and pronounced the man dead at the scene. The victim was wearing a helmet at the time of the fatal accident. The truck driver did not suffer any injuries in the collision. Police ticketed the semi driver for failure to yield in the accident. Louisiana State Police are still conducting an investigation of the accident.

Unfortunately, hardly anyone comes out unharmed in a collision with an 18-wheel semi. While some blame large trucks for not sharing the highways with smaller vehicles and motorcycles, being a defensive driver on the highways is especially important. Large commercial trucks have large blind spots and cannot see smaller vehicles, especially motorcycles.
