Alleged Hazing Accident Kills 19-Year-Old

Last September, a 19-year-old college student from Metairie fell off a trailer during a hayride. The trailer ran him over and he later died at the hospital. Now, his parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the University of Louisiana, their son’s fraternity and an unnamed person who allegedly provided drugs and alcohol.

In a report at dailycomet.com, toxicology results from the victim showed that his blood had over three times the legal limit of alcohol at the time of his death. In addition, there was Valium in his system. According to his parent’s complaint, their son’s fraternity forced him to drink alcohol and to ingest drugs. They allege that campus police and university officials failed to enforce anti-hazing policies during the school’s homecoming celebration, according to the complaint.

In short, his parents claim that those in charge knew what was happening but failed to do anything about it. Their wrongful death suit seeks an unnamed amount of damages, according to the report.

This is an unfortunate example of alleged peer pressure and what can happen when alcohol comes into play. How responsible do you think the fraternity is in the matter?
