A driver trying to pass another vehicle on Louisiana Highway 5 struck a water truck head-on last week. Upon impact the man’s car burst into flames and killed him, according to a report at ktbs.com. The fatal car crash happened around 2 p.m. near Keatchie.
Louisiana State Police said the victim was a 40-year-old man. After the head-on collision, the water truck driver attached a hose to the water tank in an attempt to extinguish the victim’s car, according to police. Sadly, the victim’s girlfriend was in another car and saw the accident happen. She tried to get to the car to help him, but witnesses pulled her away from the burning vehicle. The driver of the water truck did not suffer injuries in the crash.
There is always a level of danger present when drivers attempt to pass a slower moving vehicle on the highways. It is not always easy to see oncoming cars as you pass a vehicle on the left. Glare from the sun can block a driver’s view, even when the oncoming truck is a semi-truck. You should always make sure there is no oncoming traffic as you move to the left and into the opposite lane.
Are you quick to pass slower moving cars on the highways?
