Drunken Driver Slams into Light Pole

An SUV hit a light pole earlier this month on Canal Street in New Orleans. According to a report at wdsu.com, debris from the collision injured a New Orleans police officer who was standing nearby at approximately 6:30 a.m. Officers arrived on the scene and arrested the driver of the SUV for DWI, careless operation of a motor vehicle and driving without a license.

Emergency personnel transported the injured police officer to a local hospital where doctors treated the bruises on his back. Rescue workers treated the 33-year-old SUV driver for minor scratches in the collision with the light pole. Images from the accident scene show the front end of the SUV completely smashed inward by the light post. The light post runs along the city’s rail line and no other bystander suffered injuries in the collision.

Nighttime is not the only time that drunken drivers are on the road. In a city like New Orleans, impaired drivers can be a danger at any hour of the day. Take the same precaution behind the wheel during the day as you would at night.

Have you had experiences with impaired drivers in the daytime hours?
