More Evidence of Seatbelts Saving Lives

Last week, Louisiana State Police responded to a two-car crash in Ouachita Parish that killed one man and injured three other people. The fatal car crash happened around 7:30 p.m., according to a report at thenewsstar.com.

A 2001 Dodge pickup truck crossed the centerline on Louisiana 557 and collided head-on with a 2009 Chevrolet Traverse. Rescue workers rushed the 53-year-old pickup driver to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. According to police, he was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the head-on crash. Police do not think he was impaired, but they conducted toxicology tests regardless.

The other driver was a 32-year-old woman and rescue workers transported her to a nearby hospital with moderate injuries, according to Louisiana State Police. She had two children, ages 11 and 5-months, in the car with her at the time of the accident. Both of the children suffered minor injuries. The woman and her two kids were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

No one should ever have to lose their life to prove a point, but seatbelts do save lives. The woman took the time to secure her children safely inside the vehicle before fastening her own seatbelt.

Do you make sure all your passengers are seat belted before you put on your seatbelt?
