Police Searching for Car that Drove Away from 10-Car Pileup Crash

Louisiana State Police are still on the lookout for a vehicle that reportedly drove away from a 10-car pileup in Interstate 10 last week. A report at wafb.com said the multi-vehicle accident happened near the Highland Road exit last Tuesday morning. Emergency personnel took seven of the drivers to local hospitals for injuries. None of the injuries was life-threatening, according to the story.

A Louisiana State Police spokesperson said they are looking for a silver Toyota Camry with Texas tags that drove away from the accident scene. According to the report, the car accident happened in a construction zone when all 10 vehicles struck the rear of the car in front of it. The spokesperson said this type of car wreck happens all too often because drivers fail to pay attention and follow too closely.

Investigators from the Louisiana State Police Department are still investigating the accident’s cause. Police want anyone with information on the silver Toyota Camry to contact them immediately.

There are posted signs for decreased speed limits in construction zones. Some jurisdictions even double the fines for speeding in construction zones. Still, some drivers fail to use precaution and multi-car pileups can result.

Do you always slow down in construction zones on highways, especially when highway workers are present?
