Slip and Fall Tears Man’s Rotator Cuff

A Louisiana man filling his car with gas in Illinois said he slipped on some ice outside the Pilot gas station. He is now suing the Flying J Truck Stop in state court for his injuries in the slip and fall accident.

According to his complaint, he filled his car with gas and had to walk inside the store to pay for it. Before doing so, he had to move his car away from the gas pumps. As he walked into the store from the parking lot, he slipped and fell on some ice and snow in front of the entrance. He suffered a torn rotator cuff, which required surgery. In addition, he claims disability and a loss of his normal way of life and earning capacity.

His complaint says the gas station failed to provide a safe entrance into the store, failed to remove the snow and ice, and did not properly light the entrance area.

Slip and fall accidents are no laughing matter. The National Center for Injury Prevention and Control estimates that over 8 million people suffered injuries in slip and fall accidents in 2004. Adverse weather conditions, like above, are a major cause of the accidents. Property owners have the responsibility of maintaining safe premises and warning visitors of potential hazards.
