How Old is Too Old to Drive?

A collision between a motorcycle and an elderly-driven SUV left the motorcycle rider dead late last month on U.S. 190 and La. 396. In a report at dailyworld.com, the motorcycle accidenthappened at around 5: 40 p.m.

The 68-year-old SUV driver was approaching a stop sign at U.S. 190. The driver did not stop at the stop sign and collided with the motorcycle, which was driving east on U.S. 190. The impact ejected the rider from the motorcycle and rescue workers pronounced him dead at the scene. The SUV driver did not suffer injuries in the fatal collision.

The Louisiana State Police are investigating the motorcycle crash and charges against the SUV driver may come in the future. The police issued a press release reminding drivers that state law requires all vehicles to come to a complete stop at stop signs and to wait until it is safe to drive into the intersection.

The accident above involved an elderly driver behind the wheel. While there is no maximum age limit for driving, older drivers should get their vision checked on a regular basis. In addition, it is important that older drivers make sure their hearing is sufficient for driving. Motorcycles can be difficult to hear even for younger drivers.
