Kenner Man Pronounced Dead at the Scene

A 21-year-old man from Kenner lost his life last month when his car crashed into a canal off Veterans Memorial Boulevard. The Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is looking into the car accident, according to a report at nola.com. The car crash happened around 5 a.m., according to the report.

A sheriff’s spokesperson said the victim was driving his Honda Civic when he apparently lost control and flipped it into a canal between Houma and Independence streets in Metairie. The car landed upside down, completely submerged in the canal. There were no passengers inside the car. Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene.

Rescuers were able to remove the vehicle from the canal. The coroner’s office will conduct an autopsy to try to determine an exact cause of death.

Without an exact cause of the accident known at this point, we cannot speculate on any factors that led to the fatal car crash. However, it is a reminder of how distracted driving, impairment or fatigue can lead to losing control of a vehicle at any time. We have posted numerous blogs as well about lives that could have been saved by seatbelts.

Have you ever momentarily lost control of your car while driving alone?
