Earlier this year, we told you about a bizarre car accident that occurred near Ochsner Medical Center in July. A man driving a Honda Civic jumped a curb and landed upside down on a bus stop. Rescue workers climbed on top of the bus stop and found the 21-year-old man dead inside the vehicle. A recent report now shows that the driver was intoxicated at the time of the single-vehicle crash.
As reported at nola.com, the victim had a blood alcohol content of .15, almost twice the legal limit of .08 in Louisiana. Investigators found that driver fatigue and speed also contributed to the crash. The report also revealed that the car crossed all three lanes of Jefferson Highway before it flipped across the sidewalk. The car then vaulted the 15 feet into the air and landed on top of the bus stop.
Investigators could not get an accurate reading of the vehicle’s speed at the time of the crash. However, based on eyewitness reports, police estimate the car’s speed at around 60 or 70 mph.
In such a bizarre car crash with an unfortunate ending, it is surprising that no one else suffered injuries. Combining fatigue with alcohol behind the wheel is never a good idea.
