Serious Injury at Louisiana State Fair

A 4-year-old child suffered severe injurieson ride at the Louisiana State Fair last week, according to a report at katc.com. A ride called the “Twin Ring Demolition Derby” trapped the boy and firefighters had to extricate the boy from the ride. The incident happened just after noon last Tuesday. After firefighters removed the young victim, rescue workers transported him to LSU medical center where doctors say he is in critical condition.

State Fire Marshal personnel are investigating the incident. According to the report, the ride was last inspected on September 21, 2011. Officials will look at the mechanical and electrical aspects of the ride. They will also look into any operator errors that may have contributed to the accident.

The ride is no longer operating at the fair. The State Fire Marshal’s office says it is committed to finding a cause of the accident and to make sure it does not happen again.
