Seven People Inside Burning Building

Investigators are looking into the cause of a two-alarm fire last week in Marigny. As reported at wwltv.com, the fire started around 9:40 p.m. last Sunday night inside a building at Dauphine and Spain streets.

There were seven people inside the building at the time of the fire. The building housed five apartment units. Everyone made it to safety, and no one suffered burn injuriesin the fire. At this time, investigators do not have an estimate of the damage to the building. The New Orleans Fire Department is continuing its investigation of the fire.

Does your family or household have an evacuation plan in place in the event of a fire? Other than working smoke detectors outside every room, an evacuation plan with a pre-determined meeting place is the best way to ensure your family’s safety in a fire. Placing special stickers on windows of children’s bedrooms will let firefighters know the room contains a child.

Check the batteries in your smoke detector regularly. A good reminder is to change them every year on daylight savings time. Keeping a fire extinguisher is important as well, especially in the kitchen where the majority of house fires start.
