Residents Run from Burning Apartment Building

A 4-alarm fire earlier this month in New Orleans destroyed an empty building and damaged an apartment building near Read Boulevard, according to a report at fox9live.com. Around 9:13 a.m., the fire broke out in the apartment building and spread to an adjacent empty building.

One resident of the apartment building said he was in the shower when he saw the smoke, grabbed his daughter and ran out of the building. After that, the fire engulfed the empty building next door, which has been empty since Hurricane Katrina. The apartment building contained four apartments and suffered heavy damage in the fire. One witness commented that the wind contributed to the fire’s fast spread.

There were no reported injuries in the fire, even though the apartment residents lost most of their belongings. Officials continue to investigate the exact cause of the fire. A recent blog here was about the slow response times of the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD). However, one witness to this fire said that the NOFD arrived on the scene fast and got to work.

Fire injuriescan be some of the most painful to endure. Victims often experience psychological trauma in addition to the physical burns.

Have you ever escaped a burning building?
