Three House Fires in 24-Hours in New Orleans

Last month, New Orleans was a hot spot with three fires in a 24-hour period. As reported at wwl.com, the New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) rescued five people and two dogs from residential fires across the city.

The first fire was in an apartment building on Tullis Drive. Firefighters rescued one woman and transported her to a nearby hospital. Doctors treated her for smoke inhalation. In the second fire, the NOFD responded to a call at Peniston Street where they rescued two people from inside the building and two more on a balcony. Firefighters also pulled two dogs from the burning building. The residents pulled from inside the building suffered heavy smoke inhalation.

The third fire occurred on Touro Street when a one-story building went up in flames. It took the NOFD approximately 20 minutes to extinguish the blaze after arriving. Fortunately, no one suffered injuries in the third fire.

Investigators are looking into the cause of all three fires. There were no serious burn injuries in any of the residential fires. Our blog yesterday reminded people with space heaters to use them wisely in order to avoid a fire hazard and serious injuries such as burns and smoke inhalation. Making sure your home has working smoke detectors is one of the easiest things you can do to ensure you will help you escape your home safely in a fire.
