Has an Aggressive Driver Targeted You?

Have you ever been the victim of tailgating by another driver? Perhaps the driver in the next lane thought you cut them off on purpose and responded with a rude hand gesture. These are examples of aggressive driving, which contributes to 56 percent of all fatal car crashes in the United States, according to the American Automobile Association (AAA). Other examples of aggressive driving include:

·         Speeding

·         Rapid lane changing

·         Racing

·         Tailgating

·         Driving too fast for road conditions

If you are the target of an aggressive driver, do not make sudden maneuvers; slow down without stopping and steer your car to the right lane where you can exit the highway. If the aggressor follows you, lock all the car doors, do not stop and do not go to your home but drive to a police station or crowded area, like a shopping mall. When calling the police to report the incident, give them the description of the aggressor’s car, location of the incident and the driver’s physical description.

There are approximately 6.8 million car accidents every year, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). Aggressive driving is the leading factor in a large number of those accidents.
