Anesthesia Error Leads to Patient Death

Last month a California jury found a dentist and his anesthesiologist liable of medical malpractice in the death of a patient from a lethal dose of propofol and benzodiazepine prior to oral surgery. The victim fell into a coma and her daughter eventually removed life support. Neither dentist had a permit to administer oral sedation or general anesthesia.

Anesthesia is necessary for many types of surgery. However, a doctor who does not have proper training in administering anesthesia can seriously injury or kill a patient. The results can be disastrous if the doctor does not take a full patient history. In addition, the anesthesiologist must know the patient’s history with medication before the procedure. Anesthesia can react negatively with certain medications.

While all medical malpractice cases are complex, there are some injuries that suggest an anesthesia error, including:

·         Coma

·         Birth injuries

·         Stroke and heart attack

·         Brain injury

·         Nerve damage

There are risks present in any type of surgery, but some negative outcomes are the result of medical errors by doctors and nurses. Contact our office if your or a loved one suffers an injury from a medical error. We offer a free case review.
