Are You Using Your Grill Correctly?

Our last blog mentioned two recent fires in New Orleans, and that fires can be an even bigger safety risk in the summertime. We want you to enjoy the rest of the summer, but the U.S. Fire Administration (USFA) has a few safety tips to help you prevent fires and avoid painful burn injuries.

Stormy weather can lead to power outages. Many people keep portable generators handy to run their electrical appliances during a power outage. Make sure you maintain your generator and that it is in safe working condition. Never use it in an enclosed area.

Every year, approximately 5,000 people suffer injuries from propane grills and charcoal grills.

·         Never overfill the propane tank

·         Never wear loose clothing around the grill

·         Never add lighter fluid to an already lit fire

·         Before starting a propane grill, make sure the air and gas tube is not blocked

·         Douse hot coals with plenty of water

·         Never operate any grill in an enclosed area
