New Orleans Fire Crews Respond to Two Blazes

Firefighters battled two fires in New Orleans late last month, as reported at nola.com. Fortunately, no one suffered injuries in the blazes. In the first, workers were cutting old gas tanks below an abandoned gas station on Constance Street. There was a spark that caused a fire, which quickly spread to the gas station and a neighboring home. Fifty-eight firefighters extinguished the fire, but not before it destroyed the gas station and badly damaged the neighboring home.

In the second fire, a lawn mower caught fire behind a home on Laurel Street. Firefighters responded and there were no reports of injuries, according to a New Orleans Fire Department (NOFD) spokesperson.

Most people think that fires are only a danger in colder conditions when people use fireplaces, space heaters and Christmas lights. However, whenever there is gas or any flammable chemical present, there is always a fire danger. Even with a quick response time from fire crews, fires can spread rapidly and cause irreplaceable property damage and even painful burn injuries.
