Major Conference on TBI Coming to New Orleans

A major conference on brain and spinal cord injuries is set for New Orleans, October 13 – 17. Called Neuroscience 2012, it is the largest annual source of news on brain science in the country. On the agenda are presentations about the progress in treating spinal cord injury and traumatic brain injury (TBI).

A spokesperson for the conference said attendees will learn the latest progress on how the brain and nervous system breaks down. Experts will present their findings on how diseases and disorders damage the brain. There will also be presentations on the link between TBI and suicidal depression, and about the long-term effects of different levels of brain injury.

Of special note is the information on new treatments for Alzheimer’s disease. At present, doctors cannot diagnose the disease until the symptoms develop over time. By then, it is too late to save the patient’s quality of life. There is hope that doctors can catch the disease before the symptoms develop.
