The Ranges of a Brain Injury

Our Monday blog told you about the Louisiana woman who suffered a traumatic brain injury (TBI) in an ambulance crash caused by the driver’s negligence. While the woman received fair financial compensation for her injuries, no amount of money can make up for how the crash permanently altered her life. Would you recognize the signs of a brain injury if you were the victim of a car accident?

A mild brain injury in a car crash will probably not show up on a CT scan or MRI. Acceleration, deceleration or rotation of the head during a car accident can lead to a mild brain injury. You might lose consciousness for a few seconds and think that you are uninjured.

A moderate brain injury will show up on a CT or MRI, and you might suffer loss of consciousness for up to a week. A severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) will cause the brain to shift inside the skull and result in bleeding or damaged brain tissue.

Even if you feel fine after a car accident, consult a doctor and inform him or her of any symptoms you experience in the days following. If you suffer injuries, call our office at 504-522-7885 if you would like a free case review with a personal injury attorney. Our website has more information.
