Elevator Cable Snaps and Kills Kenner Man

A 44-year-old Kenner man died last week in a tragic elevator accident at the Cargill plant in Nine Mile Point, as reported at nola.com. The victim and his co-worker were doing repair work on an elevator when a cable snapped, causing the elevator to drop several feet. Rescue workers pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Emergency responders rushed his co-worker to the hospital with life-threatening injuries, according to reports.

Representatives from OSHA were on-site to investigate the fatal workplace accident. Investigators have six months to determine whether the company violated any federal safety regulations.

Elevators are complex mechanisms, and even the slightest malfunction can cause a fatal accident like the one here. Elevator doors that close improperly have caused injuries to fingers and toes as well. Sometimes, a manufacturing defect causes serious elevator accidents such as sudden stops, improper door closure and changes in speed.

Most people ride elevators and escalators every day without incident. If you ever suffer injury from a broken elevator or escalator, you are entitled to financial compensation for your injuries.
