Woman Struck with Metal Pipe at Birthday Party

A Jefferson Parish woman attended a birthday celebration and left the party with a severe head injury. She is now suing the hosts of the party for the negligence that caused her injuries, according to louisianarecord.com. At the party, there was a piñata suspended from the ceiling. The hosts gave their guests a metal pipe to hit the piñata and collect the candy that fell from it.

The plaintiff bent down to pick up some candy after a guest broke open the piñata with the pipe. The guest fell while still holding the pipe and it hit the victim on the head. The woman spent two weeks in the hospital and spent another three months in a rehabilitation facility. She alleges that she still experiences difficulty walking, leg trembling, mental distress, anxiety and memory problems.

Traumatic head injuries can have long lasting effects. Some of the injuries are permanent and the victim cannot return to a normal routine. In addition, the long-term care that most patients require is expensive and insurance does not cover all of it.
