According to the Louisiana State Police, 74-year-old Henry Conley sustained fatal injuries during a car accident shortly after midnight on March 16. Police said 55-year-old Sandra Thomas was driving a 2003 Jeep Grand Cherokee that unexpectedly drifted into the right side of the roadway. The Jeep began spinning and crashed into two trees.

Conley, who was sitting in the back of the Jeep, was not wearing a seat belt and was partially ejected from the vehicle. Thomas and the two other passengers were all wearing seat belts and sustained moderate injuries.

Seat Belts Save Lives

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) says that wearing a seat belt can reduce your chance of obtaining a fatal injury by up to 50 percent. Without a seatbelt, collisions can result in passengers being thrown from the vehicle.
