Crash on Interstate Kills 71-Year-Old Woman

On March 1, a woman was killed in a three-vehicle pileup on Interstate 12.

It was reported that the 71 year-old woman driving a Ford pickup truck hit a Dodge utility truck stopped in the left lane of Interstate 12. The utility truck was stopped behind a broken down Nissan sedan. The driver of the utility truck turned on his emergency flashing lights to notify approaching road traffic.  The wreck pushed the truck into the immobile Nissan.

The other drivers involved in the crash, 20-year-old and 33-year-old, were wearing seat belts and sustained only minor injuries. The 71 year-old woman who was not wearing a seat belt, and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Importance of Wearing a Seat Belt

A seat belt protects the body and controls your body’s forward motion to keep your pelvis from rotating in a crash. Seat belts also decrease head contact and excessive neck motion, making it less likely that you will sustain whiplash, strike the windshield or die in a motor vehicle accident.
