Driver Killed after Losing Control of Vehicle, Not Wearing Seatbelt

According to the Louisiana State Police, on June 3, a driver was killed in St. John the Baptist Parish after he lost control of his vehicle on Airline Highway.

At 8:45 a.m., police were notified of a serious car accident on Airline, in LaPlace. A 36-year-old Prairieville resident was driving a 1997 Mazda pickup truck on Airline, when his Mazda suddenly accelerated and drifted into the left lane. The man’s truck hit a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe, and continued to drift into the southbound lanes of traffic, causing him to strike a culvert.

The man sustained serious injuries in the crash, and was transported to River Parishes Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

The man was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. Speed is believed to be a factor in the crash; however, the accident remains under investigation.
