Family Files Wrongful Death Suit Against Gretna Nursing Home

The family of a deceased nursing home resident is suing a Gretna nursing home facility for wrongful death.

In January, the family, on behalf of their deceased mother, filed suit against a nursing home and a physician. The family claims their mother fell at the nursing home while walking and fractured her hip. Allegedly, the elderly woman was left for several hours on the floor and called for help until she was discovered by a maintenance man.

In April 2012, about six weeks after the resident underwent surgery to repair her broken hip, her daughter was called to the nursing home and claims her mother was sweating profusely and had refused to eat or drink anything.

The family demanded that an ambulance be called immediately, and that a nursing assistant clean the deceased woman’s hair and fingernails, which had allegedly not been done for quite some time. After arriving at the hospital, the elderly woman was so dehydrated that her blood could not be drawn and she had to have an IV drip immediately inserted. She was later released to the care of a different nursing home where she died two months later.
