Fatal Bus Accident Closes I-10 Westbound in Eastern New Orleans

On May 2, the New Orleans Police Department reported a fatal accident shortly after 10 a.m. on Interstate 10 West near Michoud Boulevard in eastern New Orleans. A tour bus carrying children from Crestview, Florida was involved in the 2-vehicle accident.

Police said a woman was traveling eastbound in a Honda Accord, near Michoud Boulevard, when she suddenly hydroplaned, lost control of her car and went flying into the westbound lanes of travel. She was struck from behind by a bus and landed out of harm’s way, while the bus swerved off the road and into the woods.

The woman was killed in the crash; four others suffered minor injuries and were transported to the hospital. In total, 42 people were aboard the tour bus.
